Tangaroa — God of the Sea

All fish. All sea creatures. All things that live in the ocean are his children. Tangaroa — the Māori god of the sea — is one of the most important deities in the Pacific world, worshipped across Polynesia from Samoa to Aotearoa to Tahiti under variations of the same name. He governs the element that the Māori ancestors crossed to settle every corner of the Pacific, the medium through which their entire civilization was built and sustained. Fishermen prayed to him before launching. Warriors crossed him to reach new enemies and new allies. He is the father of abundance and the force of drowning both. The ocean gives everything and takes everything. Tangaroa understands this better than anyone.
