Collection: Oyo Empire — The Yoruba Kingdom
At its height, the Oyo Empire was one of the largest states in West African history — a cavalry-powered kingdom that controlled trade routes from the Niger River to the Atlantic coast, collecting tribute from kingdoms as far as modern-day Togo and Benin. The Alaafin of Oyo sat on a throne descended directly from Oduduwa, ruling with an empire-wide administrative system that would not look out of place in Rome or Persia.
These signs carry the Oyo royal symbols, the cavalry, and the thunder of Sango who was himself an Alaafin.
